Mental Health First Aid Training - Veterans Module


This training is geared towards helping, supporting and/or working with veterans.

The 8-hour course will give you the skills and awareness to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Upon completion of all 8 hours, you will receive a 3-year certification in Mental Health First Aid / Veterans Module. This training also offers 8 hours of EAGALA approved CEUs through the EAGALA Independent Study Program to qualifying attendees.

The MHFA training is hosted by Project Horse Empowerment Center, on Trillium Farm. The course will be held in a very comfortable meeting space on the farm property, called the Gathering Building.

About the Trainer

Leslie Roberts, LPC, CSAC is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with over 25 years of experience as a clinical supervisor, program administrator and direct service provider. Leslie specializes in substance abuse and mental health treatment, family therapy, relapse prevention, continuing care services, and trauma.

Leslie has been a trainer for Mental Health First Aid - Adult and Youth Versions, as well as Veterans Module, for the past 5 years. Leslie has been an EAGALA-certified Mental Health professional for the past 10 years and has provided MHFA training at the EAGALA Pre-Conference. Leslie also trains numerous first responders in Mental Health First Aid, including the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Department and the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department. Leslie has been awarded A Team Excellence Award for teaching Mental Health First Aid in the community.

In addition to being a MHFA Trainer, Leslie has worked as an equine assisted therapist at Spirit Serving Veterans and the Project Horse Empowerment Center, and she currently serves as Project Horse’s lead clinician.
