Project HORSE focuses on promoting health, healing and learning for humans, with the aid of horses.
Horses are an integral part of the process, whether it's coaching for a family to improve their interpersonal relationships and communication or therapy for an individual recovering from susbstance abuse or trauma. Our youth groups have fun while practicing problem solving and thinking skills, promoting personal development and self awareness.

Working with horses helps every participant feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, which leads to a much higher degree of self confidence.

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) incorporate horses experientially for emotional growth and learning.
It is a collaborative effort between a licensed mental health professional and a certified horse professional, working with clients and horses to address treatment or personal development goals.

Project HORSE offers on-going experiential learning (EAL) programs as well as individual therapy (EAP) tailored to one's treatment goals.

Why horses?

Horses provide vast opportunities for metaphorical learning. Using metaphors, in discussion or activity, is an effective technique when working with even the most challenging individuals or groups.

WORD FROM THE HERD

Our Sponsor-A-Horse Progam is now underway! Offering all levels of support - very small to large - this is a fun way to help our herd, assist our mission and keep a connection with the horses.

HORSE Play
For preteen boys and girls, grouped by age, these day-long Saturday funshops are a great way to learn more about horses and about each other.

Grafton Integrated Health Network  has sent several teen groups out for a group therapy series, with great success! We are enjoying this blossoming partnership to help at-risk youth. Groups come to Project HORSE from both the Leesburg campus (formerly Graydon Manor) and the Berryville campus (formerly the Grafton School).

CAMPS - Dates have been set & registration is open for Spring Break and Summer sessions of our preteen leadership camp.

Windwood Academy made a two-day field trip to Project HORSE as part of their summer camp experience, and what a wonderful experience it was for the children! They chose to sponsor one of our extra special rescue horses, Foster. Thank you!!

Several different at-risk youth groups visited throughout the summer, with most from Fairfax County. The rescue horses and their stories made a huge positive impact on these kids, as did the feeling of pride and accomplishment when they learned basic horse handling skills, had opportunities to connect with the horses, engaged in teambuilding activities, and simply spent peaceful time on the farm. We hosted The Boys Probation House of Fairfax, Foundations Probation House for Girls, Juvenile Shelter II Fairfax, and Graydon Manor/Grafton School.

Heritage High School's special education program made regular visits to Project HORSE this summer, to expose Loudoun County developmentally delayed high school students to the wonders of horses and all they can teach.

Jill's House, a respite care facility for severely developmentally and intellectually delayed children, chose Project HORSE as their very first field trip outing. What a success it was!
